Anaphylaxis and Adrenaline Auto-injector Awareness
Anaphylaxis (or anaphylactic shock) is a life-threatening, serious allergic reaction to substances such as food groups insect stings. Under the The Human Medicines (Amendment) Regulations 2017, certain settings are now permitted to hold ‘spare’ adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs) for emergency use, in addition to those prescribed to individuals suffering from serious allergies.
This training is to enable first responders to recognise and treat anaphylaxis safely and effectively. It includes the administration of adrenaline auto-injectors (such as EpiPen of Jext) and the importance of recognising and differentiating between allergic reactions and potentially life-threatening anaphylactic reactions immediately.
Qualification details and validity
This is an awareness training session. It is strongly recommended that refresher training is undertaken periodically, preferably within three years of the course.

Assessment and certification
This course provides an awareness and has no formal assessment. The instructor will however informally assess groups throughout the session and a certificate of attendance will be issued upon completion.
Age restrictions and group sizes
A maximum of 12 learners are allowed per instructor and must be a minimum of 14 years of age. To assume full first aider responsibilities, learners should also hold a relevant first aid qualification and be at least 16 years of age.
